CABARET
Cabaret revolutionized the musical to explore the dark underbelly of Berlin in 1931. Bob Fosse staged breathtaking numbers with choreography that was not only entirely original, but that revealed the rotting core of Berlin as it slipped into the maelstrom of the Third Reich’s nightmare.
The film succeeds on every cinematic level – winning eight Academy Awards for Fosse’s direction, stunning performances by Liza Minelli and Joel Grey, its dark and evocative cinematography, its score, art direction, sound and kinetic editing. This is truly a masterpiece and well worth revisiting on Highland’s “big screen” with “big sound”. This film is a hedonistic feast for the senses.
