On The Importance of Rules

We start off the new year with an exciting Member Monday discussion on the subject of Humanism, a philosophical and ethical stance focused on doing good and living well in the here and now, rather than following the dictates of a religious order or a supernatural force. The focus article features an interview with Gordon Gamm, Boulder’s noted philanthropist and Humanist raised in the Jewish tradition.

At City Club we do not see a conflict between the two views since Moses knew he could not lead slaves anywhere, let alone to the Promised Land, hence the 40-years of wandering in the desert till they came up with Ten Commandments and 613 laws on how to act like free humans, instead of slaves, before dealing with higher concepts like a single God. BTW, not a single slave who left Egypt entered the Promised land, including Moses himself, who lived long enough to peek, but not enter!

Fast forward three thousand years and picture a bunch of slave-owning white guys sweating bullets in the Philadelphia heat until they agreed on a Constitution defined by 85 Federalist Papers, on how to self-govern and create these United States, still going strong 243 years later and which is the envy of the world (watch video below).

Most people hate Jordan Peterson, the contemporary Canadian philosopher, and disagree with many of the conclusions in his best-selling book 12 Rules for Life. But how can one disagree with maintaining good posture and making one’s bed in the morning? All males want to become men, but most aren’t willing to do the hard work and follow rules.

While City Club strives to diversify the age, gender, religion, ethnicity and net worth of its members, it requires all City Club members to act like enlightened humans by following the rules outlined in our CHARTER. These rules are designed to help us create a safe place to evolve from slaves to our worldly needs, to free men, and eventually, Superior men and women.

Although a large percentage of our busy members open and read our newsletters, not every member does. So I will also send this intro and a copy of our charter to all Active Members' email account to make sure everyone is aware of our community's new and modified Rules, Regs, Policies, Procedures and Prices.

Looking forward to a great year ahead.
