Spring in Highland's Gardens
Spring in the Rockies is my favorite time of the year, and there is no better place to experience spring than in Highland’s gardens.
The combination of the harsh weather and the third year of the pandemic made this a tough winter, but by now that’s all behind us, and spring is ahead.
March 21 also happens to be the Persian New Year and City Club’s 18th anniversary. During this period we survived The Great Recession, The Great Resignation, a Global Pandemic, and still managed to renovate and convert the historic Highland School building from an office to a club, and grow our membership to ~300, hoping to grow it to ~1200.
As many of you know, last year’s 100-mile-an-hour winds took down Highland’s central tree, and a fire burned down one of our structures, but we succeeded in building the Neopolitan fountain pictured above, and finished half a dozen other major projects.
In the past year we also brought back our popular buffet lunch and successfully launched a new food program, allowing our members to order food from 9 am to 4 pm. Currently more members order from the menu than attend buffet lunch! In fact, the launch of the new food program was such a huge success, we are in the midst of a major renovation to triple the size of Highland’s kitchen in anticipation of our projected growth.
By May of 2020, the pandemic caused nearly half of our tenants and members to move out, quit, or put their membership on hold. But I am happy to report that once again Highland and its residences are 100% full, and we have more social and business members than we had at the outset of the pandemic.
By the time we had finished the construction of our new fountain in October, it was too late to fill and plant it, so we are really looking forward to getting a head start on our winter garden cleaning, so we can fire up and plant the new fountain, so plan to celebrate spring with us.
Finally, our City Club community is growing, as evidenced by the fact we added eighteen members in January and eleven in February, so please consider encouraging your cool and enlightened friends with big hearts to join our community so we might offer more programs like the recent amazing six-part music series.
Happy Spring to all, and hope to see you soon in the gardens.
