The IDEA LAB
We think of the Club as a complex multi-faceted community providing our diverse membership with a place to work, socialize, dine, entertain, and bear new ideas.
While City Club’s original members may have been older, wiser, more experienced, and financially well-off, our new members tend to be young, smart, and driven to launch a host of new ideas awaiting merely the right kind of environment and support.
We feel fortunate to apply the concept of AbraCadabra (I create as I speak), to the attraction of brilliant, creative, and experienced members like Todd Minnis, Matt Harder, and other such motivated members to launch a new Idea lab Summit with fundamental trust that if we build it, they will come.
While Highland has had the good fortune over the past forty years to host and incubate many great ideas, from best-selling business books and rock operas to raising seed capital to fund multiple start-ups, we believe the time has finally come to systematize this process. Launching a formal Idea Lab is our way to select, house, mentor, and help fund multiple ideas simultaneously.
If you and a motivated colleague have an idea you believe can help advance human evolution, please take the time to look at the outline for the Idea Lab, and consider applying to formally present your idea to our community. If you are an experienced mentor and/or investor, consider mentoring and/or investing in these ideas. On May 11th we plan to invite all interested parties to a Summit where five ideas will be selected and then supported over the following six month period.
In conclusion, while we realize Rome was not built overnight and that the greatest journey starts with the small first step, please consider this new event a small step towards a great goal, similar to the launch of City Club eighteen years ago, and Highland Institute three years ago.
