May You Live in Interesting Times
While many people think of the above expression as a Chinese curse that implies uncertainty, crisis, and turmoil, its origin is English, ironically implying a blessing.
Let me start by stating how fortunate I feel to live in America, where the ultimate power lies with the people instead of politicians and elite leaders who presume to know better.
Less than a month ago, we faced an awful choice between two old, self-centered white men who put their agenda ahead of the country’s interest. People felt powerless and frustrated. Then, on June 27th, over fifty million Americans witnessed the spectacle of the debate between Trump and Biden, which confirmed their suspicion that President Biden was no longer fit for office and Trump was still the same egocentric liar attached to the tired old notion about the 2020 election having been stolen.
So now, with Trump having been the subject of an assassination attempt, thereby elevating him to quasi-sainthood, and Biden, having been forced by his party to drop out, we’re in a new ballgame. Then the most intriguing question became what candidate would emerge from an open convention in Chicago on August 19th to best challenge and beat Trump at his own game.
Putting aside the negative feature of Kamala's colorful past, which undoubtedly will be exploited by the Trump campaign, is the fact that, once again, the Democratic elite has subverted the process by unilaterally selecting her to be Biden's replacement. Harris is a poor speaker and a subpar campaigner with a high net negative approval rating who was unable to garner any delegates during her last run for president. In fact, this process was nothing more than a vast gaslighting operation by the Democratic elite as soon as they realized Biden’s incapacity to win against Trump.
As an American seeking a viable alternative to Trump’s candidacy, I ask myself why the Democratic party hid Biden’s health conditions this far into the election. Why are they coronating Kamala Harris instead of allowing the Democratic convention to select the next viable candidate who can beat Trump? Are the same Democratic elites who turned on Biden once they determined he couldn’t win now offering up Kamala Harris as a sacrificial lamb for the sake of a better shot in 2028?
We sure live in interesting times.
