Food Security
Nearly half of the world population struggles with food security, defined as lack of access to adequate calories, poor quality, questionable safety and price affordability.
While the Coronavirus has impacted every aspect of our American way of life, somehow our food supply was minimally affected and our grocery stores remained well stocked! But what if this does not prove to be the case during the next shock to the system?
Benjamin Franklin said, “by failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.” We consider food the fuel that drives us, the medicine that heals us, and the glue that keeps our community together; our staff buys, prepares, cooks and eats the same meals we serve to our members, so we are always striving to improve the quality of the food we serve. In light of all this, here is an update on the food front:
Thanks to the efforts of member Parker Johnson, we recently secured a new custom-designed 20,000-bee hive, allowing the bees to feast in and pollinate our gardens, providing us with future honey like they did in years past.
We just completed the design and construction of a 560-cubic-foot walk-in fridge, so we can buy and store quality food in bulk at wholesale prices.
We are in the process of expanding our small kitchen into the adjacent spa area, allowing us to triple the size of our kitchen, so we can eventually serve our members continuously starting at 7 am for breakfast; lunch from noon to 2 PM, and freshly squeezed organic juices and appetizers throughout the day. You will hear more about this ambitious project as we make progress.
Member Tripp Wall, who, amongst many other cool projects is the co-owner of Alfalfa’s Market, is launching Trailhead Regeneration Fund, a mission-driven investment firm backing entrepreneurs and companies that are building the regenerative future of food and agriculture. We plan to do our very best to help Tripp succeed on this front.
