The Watermelon Party
Are you looking forward to the upcoming 2024 elections?! Me neither.
Birth and death are nature’s way of renewing itself. Creative Destruction is Capitalism’s saving grace. Similarly, our Constitution’s flexibility to form new political parties, watch them grow, die, or morph into new parties is key to the continuing health and longevity of our democratic system.
A good example of this process was the birth of the Know Nothing Party in the mid-1850s. Having started as a nativist political party, it morphed into the Whig Party, the Constitutional Union Party, the North American Party, and eventually today’s Republican Party, which is very different from Lincoln’s Republican Party.
Forced to choose between two geriatric presidential candidates accused of sedition, corruption, and influence peddling, our nation is in the process of reshuffling our political parties to better reflect the Founding Fathers’ vision to continuously reinvent ourselves as we strive to reach the Shining City on the Hill.
“No-Labels,” and “Not Left. Not Right. Forward” are emerging political parties with the potential to disrupt the next election in ways no one can imagine at this juncture. Today’s Republican Party, led by Donald Trump, is on a death spiral with no leader waiting on the sidelines to save it. Meanwhile, the old Democratic Party, which has morphed into today’s Progressive Party, is morphing into the Watermelon Party.
Green on the outside and red inside, today’s Progressives see every problem through the global warming and atonement for our historic sins. While striving to eliminate the production and use of carbon-based fuels and the construction of pipelines, we encourage Venezuela and other non-democratic nations to take on this dirty job. While subsidizing the use of electric cars to nearly a trillion dollars, we failed to upgrade and expand the electric infrastructure that would support the increased electrical demand.
The red on the inside symbolizes the anger Progressives feel about America's past fundamental sins such as slavery, colonialism, and racism. With its focus on such matters as proper pronouns, alternative lifestyles, and the rights of the underdog, the Watermelon Party chooses to deal with Israel, the only functioning democracy in the middle east, as a pariah state while paying $6 Billion to Iran, an arch enemy of both America and Israel, to free unjustly detained Iranian-American prisoners!
The bad news: our two main political systems are dysfunctional and dying. The good news: we have been here before, have found our way through it, and I trust we will do so again, hopefully soon.
