A Progress Report

In 2005, we launched City Club in the dark basement of the historic Highland School to house an ideal community akin to Benjamin Franklin’s Junto, considered by many to be the birthplace of the American Revolution.

More focused on developing our culture than membership growth, we initially sought and attracted older value-oriented members with the time and interest to participate in the club’s intellectual activities. This orientation then shifted as we secured a commercial kitchen and liquor license, increasing our capacity to serve food and alcohol. The subsequent full remodel and conversion of the rest of Highland attracted young members looking for a place to work, socialize, and eat delicious and healthy meals in good company.

I am pleased to report that our club is now ideally positioned to spiral to its next level of growth:

— After five years of planning, design, and construction, we have finally completed our kitchen remodel. These upgrades will allow us to grow our membership and expand the quality and quantity of our food service.

— Along with expanding our kitchen, we designed and built a 16-foot-long full bar with a barista station to better serve our members and our new evening service offering.

— Chef Maria Cooper served as our chef for ten years and helped refine our food philosophy. Chef Tyler Crawford served as chef for seven years and helped grow our food service. We are excited to welcome Chef Tim Cook to cement City Club’s reputation as a fine dining venue offering nourishment and delight with made-to-order items available from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

— After seven years of working with my son Dustin to ensure an orderly transition of power, I am confident that he is more than ready and capable of leading our community for the next generation.

— With Dustin in charge of City Club’s operation and membership growth, I plan to focus my energy on the Highland Institute for the Advancement of Humanity (“Highland Institute”), which we launched in 2020 after ten years of research.

— To further delineate Highland Institute from the City Club, effective October 1, 2024, we plan to launch a monthly Highland Institute Newsletter. All active City Club members can opt to receive Highland Institute’s Newsletter.

As we seek to progress and evolve our approach to Food & Beverage, we are requesting your feedback for the next chapter ahead. Please complete this short survey so that we might better understand your wishes and delights and offer you, our beloved members, more of those experiences moving forward.

The only constant is change. Highland’s 134-year history is a testament to the power of continuous learning and improvement. We are proud of City Club’s accomplishments in the past twenty years and look forward to growing its membership and supporting Highland Institute's efforts to advance human evolution.
