Clash of Civilizations

The U.S. Navy Aircraft Carriers USS Gerald Ford, Eisenhower, and their Strike Force arrived in the Eastern Mediterranean in advance of the visit by President Biden.

I decided to take time to cool off and deal with my shock, sadness, and anger before writing about Israel’s October 7th equivalent of Pearl Harbor, 9/11, or the 1973 Yom Kippur War. I strived to explore the root cause of this evil, its potential silver lining, and the outline of a global solution to this problem.

In the first part of the Koran, in Madina, Muhammed sees Islam as the final chapter of the Abrahamic religions, friendly to Jews with Jerusalem as their rightful homeland. In the second part of the Koran, while in Mecca, Muhammed turns on the Jews, making it incumbent upon Muslims to kill Jews.

Muhammed’s passing marked the Islamic split between the Shia and Sunni sects, representing the liberal and conservative sides of Islam depending on which is in power at the time.

In 1979, with the fall of the Shah of Iran, conservative Ayatollahs took over and tried to take back Islam’s mantle of Jihad from Saudi Arabia. Iran declared America the ‘Big Satan’ and Israel the ‘Little Satan,’ took 52 Americans hostage, and strived to establish a global Islamic Caliphate using proxies like Hamas, Hezbollah, and Islamic Jihad.

That brings us to today, where Hamas, acting as Iran’s foot soldier and backed by Russia, adopts a charter, substituting “Jew” for “Zionist” in a section of the Koran as the pretext to commit the brutal acts of October 7th.

“The Day of Judgment will not come about until Muslims fight Jews and kill them. Then, the Jews will hide behind rocks and trees, and the rocks and trees will cry out: ‘O Muslim, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him.’” — The Koran

Two years ago, in this space, I predicted we were nearing the end of an 80-year cycle (i.e., The Fourth Turning), with the flashpoint catalyst for the next World War being Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Iran’s and Israel's entanglement in war, and/or China’s invasion of Taiwan. What I did not understand then, but has become clear to me since, is that these are three battlefronts within a wider war, as Samuel Huntington put forth in his classic The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of the World Order.

With Shias against Sunnis, Islam against Jews, China, Russia, and Iran against America, Israel, and Europe, it will take a regime change in Iran and a Renaissance within Islam to shift the balance of power from evil to good.

The dispatch of two massive U.S. Navy Aircraft Carriers into the Eastern Mediterranean in advance of President Biden’s historic visit to Israel sends a clear signal to our enemies that notwithstanding America and Israel’s best efforts to appease Iran and Hamas, it will take the brutal projection of force to fight this evil.

To do so, we must 1) continue to supply weapons to Ukraine in its fight against Russia, 2) continue to promote the peace process between Israel and Saudi Arabia, 3) provide Israel with bunker-buster bombs and mid-air refueling airplanes to rid Iran of its nuclear potential and empower its people in support of regime change, and 4) bring back the Shah’s son who lives in LA to establish a Constitutional Monarchy in Iran.

Like it or not, the next World War is here. This multi-front war features cyber, currency, trade, space, technology (especially chip manufacturing), and various kinetic battles fought via proxies.

Rather than burying our heads in the sand and wishing it would disappear, we must come to terms with the fact that we are at war, clean our houses, unite, and strive to elect a president who can lead us through it.
