On The Importance Of Good Manners
"Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others. If you have that awareness, you have good manners, no matter what fork you use." -Emily Post, author and columnist (27 Oct 1872-1960)
It takes more than Rules & Regs, Policies & Procedures to have 300+ smart people on-the-go work, eat, drink, socialize and get along in a 128-year old historic landmark.
What makes the City Club community special is an ingrained culture that emphasizes the old fashion need for manners; a safe place to be who we are, to go from surviving to thriving, to be patient going through the lunch line trusting there will be plenty to eat, to using the new cappuccino machine with care as if it is our own.
Most new members and visitors are originally impressed by our building, gardens, decor and art collection. But shortly after they realize there is something different about this place. We like to think what folks detect but may not be able to find a word for is manners. City Club members strive to go from taking to giving, from happiness to joy; from me to us.
