Steve Borne

After a successful first career in music technology, I went into the creative space, and for the past 30 years, I have been a film and TV sound designer and mixer in NYC. My projects have won Emmys for sound, Sundance Grand Jury prizes, NYFF Audience Awards, and a Cannes Palme d'Or.

I have produced films, TV pilots, albums, a live concert DVD, and have toured nationally with my music project, which was a rock band for children called Princess Katie & Racer Steve. I wanted to travel the world so badly. I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I grew up with two sisters and a large tribe of cousins, in a home infused with languages, education, and creativity to face life's challenges.

So after obtaining my degree in Industrial Design and working as an in-house designer, I moved to Europe to explore as many factories, exhibitions, conferences, and design events as possible. I lived, worked, and studied in London, Milan, Berlin, Copenhagen, and Munich until love and my concern for climate change brought me to the US. I am married to Pietro, an Italian engineer devoted to Wind Energy research, and I am the mum of a 1/2 cup Argentinian, 1/2 cup Italian, and 1 tbsp American daughter.

When I moved to Boulder I founded my own design company, called ESIDE⋮, because I wanted to work in a creative environment surrounded by people that inspired me and who have a commitment to making great things happen in the world…

Matt Query

Matt was born and raised in Boulder where he stayed through his graduation from CU. He then traveled and worked through New Zealand, Southeast Asia, Europe, and Patagonia, eventually finding himself on a fishing boat in Alaska.

It was on the deck of that fishing boat at the end of a 40-hour shift when Matt decided to apply to Lewis & Clark law school in Oregon, dreaming of a career in environmental litigation. Despite the distractions of fly fishing for steelhead, and training a hunting dog, he actually did graduate on time.

Matt spent the next five years working for a litigation firm specializing in natural resource issues, handling cases in state and federal courts related to agriculture, timber, mining, public lands, tribal law, fisheries, wildlife management, and most importantly, water. During this same span of time, Matt and his wife Sonya bought a small ranch in southern Oregon where they kept sheep, cattle, horses, chickens, bees, and did endless fence work and wildfire mitigation…

Amanda Nicole Borne

I grew up on a Kansas dirt road on the outskirts of Wichita, down the road from our family business, Gilpin Feed and Supply, which my grandfather started. I happily worked at the store and helped out at the farm and the dog kennel as far back as I can remember, loading and unloading bales of hay, straw, grass seed, sweet grain, dog food, and bird seed. I cleaned out the stables, rode, brushed, and fed the horses and other animals, herded cattle, drove them to market, and learned a lot about life along the way. I was never treated differently because I was a girl, as long as I always worked hard, and made myself useful.

My interests include running outdoors, hiking, writing snail mail letters, fashion, art, calligraphy, learning about and experiencing different cultures, wine, seeing how fast I can go on a go-cart, and listening to and making music. I play the saxophone with my Rockstar husband.

My major motivators include nurturing community, harmony, genuine connection, transparency, hard work, respect, integrity, a strong relationship with God, and the idea that small things make a big difference.

During high school, I spent every penny I earned traveling to NYC during summer and spring breaks to find internships, explore the city, learn the trains, and convince Columbia University to let me live in their vacant dorm rooms or rent a room at the midtown YMCA. Current projects include guest/substitute teaching in Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley school districts, taking calligraphy classes and jobs, playing more music, and helping my husband with his business start-up called HearLabs. Future projects include buying a house with enough land for some cattle, horses, and a music studio…
